Time Out

I hate to do this, but it’s crunch time at work for a major project, so no real post today and quite likely not tomorrow. We’ll see.

I’ve received and posted a few more pieces up over at From the Nether if you’re looking for something to read.

Raid last night was good, pugged up to fill our 25 and cleared the Citadel and took down Festergut.

As a guild member said, our success and failure on Rotface was directly tied to the people afflicted with the slime.

My raid kittens can kite slimes.

PuGs?

Not so much.

I think we gave it 4 shots and then called it for the night.

Looking forward to picking up 10s again on Thursday.

I want Sindragosa down this week.

And now for something completely different

I swear I am not an RPer.

Pinky swear even.

Even when we did table top D&D, we didn’t dwell so much on the interplay of charcters.

My characters all tend to have much higher charisma and higher intelligence than I personally possess. OK, with the exception of my last barbarian, charisma and int were her dump stats… that was fun to role play.

We all generally had character backgrounds and personality quirks and we were blessed with a game master capable of weaving some incredible stories, the kind you sit around and talk about years later. Remember when we were in that one campaign? Good times.

But in terms of communication between ourselves and even most of the NPCs we encountered, we were pretty lax about the whole in-character and out-of-character thing.

My first characters were rolled on an RP server. Funny enough, the server was chosen by that game master’s wife. It was Cenarion Circle, and I still have 10 characters sitting over there, all experiments in the most inefficient ways to level.

When I zoned in on my first character, that poor night elf warrior, I was greeted by a female nelf with “vamp” in her name attempting to solicit sexual favors from all the level 1 male night elves. There was much custom emoting occurring…

Once out of the starting zone, RP on Cenarion Circle (at the time, it could be different now) consisted primarily of one person making a terrible statement in trade chat in archaic English, “Prithee, canst thou giveth me directions to yon weapon trainer for staves?”

From there, trade would erupt into the Murloc Movie Name Game (Fried Green Murlocs), Chuck Norrisisms, or berating the poor guy for trying.

I witnessed a few sporadic conversations in RP-style, but it seemed like a lot of effort and well, really boring.

It reminded me of playing Vampire. Vampire tends to be a much more political based game whereas in Werewolf, I got to tear shit up.

Ultimately, I prefer tearing shit up and not so much caring about political maneuverings within a game.

So, within the realm of the game World of Warcraft, I’m not interested in developing a story to act out. Fighting the same raid bosses every week would be tough for me to work around.

However…

I still create personalities for my characters. In my head, they have reactions to the quests they complete. They like different places in Dalaran, they look at other characters differently.

And when an entity develops a personality that personality needs to be expressed.

So I’ve started doing little stories here and there, little snippets of scenes that exemplify bits of personality and I’ve posted them here and there.

Then over at DoTs and HoTs we started doing the story contest with scenes I made in the WoW Model Viewer (and yes, there will be more of those coming up).

Flood gates opened.

We realized that we have some very good literary talent around here and it deserved to be showcased.

So a few of us ganged up and put together a new blog where said talents can be put on display.

It’s completely dedicated to RP-type stuff, no game mechanics or loot drops or guild drama. If that’s not your thing, don’t bother, no worries.

And… to be fair with the warnings, it’s not all safe for work. If you’re sensitive about that sort of thing, I suggest you avoid anything with a tag of Smut.

Updates will be when the collaborating authors get around to it, this is just for fun and giggles.

Because I’m not an RPer.

Honest.

Moving Up? Standing Still?

Last night we had a pretty decent raid in ICC 10.

I logged on and didn’t really care about whether or not a raid happened.

I was in this bizarre, mellow sort of mood where if it happened it did, if it didn’t, oh well.

Enough people were on, I basically grabbed everyone that was not currently in an instance and barely remembered to make sure we had 2 tanks.

Somehow I have a plethora of healers, mostly all resto shaman. Where did you all come from?

We were continuing the raid from earlier in the week so Rotface and Festergut were down as well as Valithiria. Continue reading

Turn to page 6

In reference to the title, all I can say is that our guild vent fucking rocks.

I will never be able to look at orange soda again without at the very least cracking a smile.

Raiding is awkward at the moment.

I WAS going to be raiding 6 days this week…

But the issue I mentioned yesterday, well, I’m sort of involved. And I’m not really sure if my presence would be a good thing or not… so I’m going with the assumption that I should let things simmer down before showing up again.

That cleared out a couple days of raiding.

And I just started getting this melee shit figured out. Continue reading

The need to destroy

There is a situation happening right now.

It’s not my place to talk about it, so I won’t.

But I will say that I feel someone is being treated unfairly and it bothers me.

I see them in a similar position to where I was once upon a time and it’s rather painful to watch from the other side.

Since I can’t do anything to help directly, I found myself sort of lost last night.

I considered hopping on an alt to do… something.

My priest?

No, leveling him with a group.

My blood elf DK? Continue reading

Yes, this is a total cop out post

So I was up too late and I’m sick and so there is no real content for this post.

Raiding with a fever – kind of trippy.

We keep getting 4/5 in ToGCr.

Anub fucking had a love affair with me last night.

Our first attempts on him, he targets me first, I get BoPped by the pally, Anub bugs out and will not target anyone else.

I had to kite that bastard the entire burrow phase.

I also killed a rogue in the process. Continue reading

Stardate 3.3.3

What? I can’t be the only one that thinks the patch numbers start sounding like stardates…

Anyway, patch 3.3.3 is most likely going to hit this morning so while you’re all chomping at the bit for the maintenance to end (after being extended at least 3 times), here’s a recap of the important stuff to look forward to.

Fire Mages

As Dark/Soth has been practically chanting for the past week, patch 3.3.3 may herald the return of FIRE!

The problem with fire is that it is highly unpredictable. Fireball. Fireball. CRIT. CRIT. HOT STREAK. ZOMG. PYROBLAST IN YO FACE, MOTHERFUCKER! Dead mage.

The threat reduction on Burning Soul is being increased from 5/10% to 10/20%. I expect an increase in fire mage life expectancy of approximately 24.33 (repeating of course) seconds. Continue reading

Light my Fire

No, not doing another nekkid belf page. Yet. /wink

No, sorry Dark/Soth, not posting about the 3.3.3 changes to the fire tree.

(And total tangent, but we “downed” Dreamwalker last night and are 10/12 in ICC 10!)

I’m talking about fire starters.

No, not Stephen King characters.

The people that light a fire under your ass to get something done.

Love them or hate them, you encounter these people all the time.

These are the people that somehow inspire you to think critically about yourself and possibly change what it is that you are doing. Continue reading

How did you sleep last night?

Something a little different today, bear with me.

Alright, now take a deep breath and close your eyes.

On second thought, don’t close your eyes because then you can’t read this.

Think about the position you generally fall asleep in.

Seriously.

Nothing kinky or perverted.

(This time.)

Are you on your stomach? Your back? Left side? Right side?

Arm tucked under the pillow?

Legs strewn across the bed?

Now you can close your eyes if you need help remembering, just open them again to keep reading.

When you’ve got a good image of how you fall asleep, answer this question:

What character in WoW do you consider your MAIN character?

This could be the character you spend the most time on, or the character you’ve always felt the strongest connection with (for those of us loonies that get connected with our toons.).

What is that character’s race and gender?

Now pore over the  images below the break. Continue reading

If this keeps up…

I’m not going to be able to call myself failDK anymore.

OK, so it’s mostly just an affectionate moniker for my DK, but I don’t have the same comfort level as I do on my mage.

Mage – I am master of the arcane! I shall obliterate anything in my path! Or flirt outrageously with it!

DK – Where the fuck is the back of this mob?

We set forth into ICC 10 again last night and as hoped, I was able to increase my ass-whooping potential. Continue reading
