Now that I feel guilty about treating my rogue like trash

I spent some time giving a bit more consideration to the future of the character.

At the very least, I have a guaranteed spot as a bank alt set aside.

*IF* by some miracle I decide to actually keep this as a playable character to end game… I’m not real sure what I will do with my bank alt(s).

I had this plan to level the rogue with herbalism and mining and convert it to enchanting and leatherworking once I was ready to hang up the daggers for accounting ledgers.

But I’ve discovered a teensy-tiny little issue with my plan.

Normally, I level via questing with a dungeon here and there to break up the monotony.

This time I’m hitting up quests in between my dungeons.

The result is that I have left the appropriate zones for what I can pick and hit to move on to level-appropriate questing zones.

I’m toying with the idea of  making the profession switch now, but I know that as a pure-DPS class in the future I will be spending more time solo and less time in dungeons. It sure would be nice to pick some flowers while being all alone. Nice, but not really a necessity.

But… that would mean I would have to backtrack to level up the gathering professions and I feel the chill breath of November nearing closer.

But… if I make the switch now, are these the professions I would want to have on the off chance that I do make it to end game?

The whole idea behind the enchanting and leatherworking is to be able to turn things around quickly in the AH. Disenchanting low-level greens and maybe even picking up a couple of the more profitable patterns so I don’t have to keep shipping materials and scrolls around to Arioch. Leatherworking is great for converting scraps that people sell dirt cheap as well as a few seasonal items.

But if this rogue were to make it to end game, what professions would I want?

Leatherworking would probably still be a good choice, but I’m not so sure I would want another maxed enchanter. Tailoring would also have some good AH benefits, but again, not so sure that another tailor (especially for a rogue) would really be beneficial or fun.

I already have plans for an engineer and blacksmith as well as a second alchemist. A second scribe sounds like a pain in the ass.

So I think leatherworking is a safe bet, regardless of what the future holds in store for the roguelette.

I’m already well out of range for herbalism so I should just go ahead and switch that now. I will miss Lifeblood. I’ve had some very smooth dungeon groups and then I’ve had 3 fucktards pulling everything other than the tanks target. (Yes, including the healer. He was in tanking gear because he said it was “more fun that way.”) I’ll also miss tracking herbs for the prickly fruit cooking daily.

Leveling with enchanting would be nice for DEing the blues I’m getting in the dungeons, but the cash from them is just as useful as the shard would be. Matter of fact, if I need shards, I can just farm them on Arioch. So there’s really no reason to take enchanting until the decision has been made if the rogue will be parked in an AH or not.

If I go to end game I suppose I could pick up skinning to complement the leatherworking and provide a crit bonus. It would also be easy to drop in favor of enchanting if I land a job as a personal bank teller.

Meaning… I should pick up skinning now. Mining has a slightly better zone overlap than herbing, but I’m awfully close to not being able to beat on a rock. I can make some cash off what I don’t need for leveling leatherworking. And I should do it sooner rather than later so I don’t have to backtrack so far.

Well, now that that is decided, off to Orgrimmar to redo my professions and pick up a skinning knife. I should probably train too…

I give all my alts a Gnomish Army Knife, so when I have to pick/switch professions, I don’t have the little purchases needed to get started in a gathering profession.

  2. [...] as how switching around professions on the rogue was a bit of the spur of the moment decision, I did not have the opportunity to lurk in the AH for discount [...]
