Transmogrification

Not just a cool idea anymore.

I was kind of iffy on the whole ‘mogging thing, just sounded like a reason to get people back into old content and a bit of a gold sink.

(Not that I am opposed to gold sinks, look no further than my mount and pet collection.)

I wasn’t even going to post about it.

(Although there is an old PvP set that I find to be amusing…)

But then they posted the Mage T13 preview.

I have never been so happy that I kept my Sunstrider’s Regalia tucked away.

Timelord Regalia?

Seriously?

It’s cool as far as an armor set goes.

For an engineer.

Or maybe even gnomes in general.

But for my master of the arcane?

The very idea of being laden down with gears, the heart of technology, flies right in the face of being a practitioner of MAGIC.

No, I will not fix your goblin trike.

No, I will not tell you what time it is.

Keep us linked with the blue dragonflight. Don’t start dragging Nozdormu into this.

And for the love of baby bunnies, why does it involve being swaddled in a quilt?

With goggles that look like reverse-facing rockets at first glance.

I cast Magic Missiles at the darkness!

I’m sick, otherwise I would continue. But I’m afraid of devolving into a non-sensible rant (yes, more than it already is).

Warrior, Shaman, Druid, and Warlock are also up. How are your classes faring?

It does have a bit of a look about being hand stitched while singing Sound of Music ‘favourite things’ and accidentally sewing in some torches (flash-lights) that people had left about … snicker :)

I dare not think what they will do to poor priests…..

HEY!!!! YOUR GREAT GRANDMOTHER MADE YOU THAT TIER SET! YOU SHOULD WEAR IT PROUDLY!!!!

I no longer raid, so I dont have to worry about any of this, but I dont really care to look like Deathwing either.

I kinda liked the Shaman one. It was very Witch Doctor looking.

  3. Funny, this is my favourite T13 set so far. I admit the helm is a little goofy, but those shoulders are awesome, I love the colours, and it’s great to see them doing something a little different.

Certainly much better than that hideous shaman set. That helm looks like something you buy at Petsmart for your dog to play with.

Mind you, my opinion’s pretty moot with the way they’ve designed it so you can only get tier head and shoulders from raiding, unless they include tokens in the raid finder, which I doubt. I’ll probably end up mogging back to T11 or the custom bloodmage set I made from WotLK gear just to avoid a clown suit.

See, this is the wonderful thing about transmogrification. It has freed up the artistic team to take aesthetic risks. Each one of the sets they’ve put out so far has had extreme and fervent reactions. You either love them or you hate them, there are very few ‘meh’ posts. But if you don’t have to wear it, don’t have to stare at it for months at a time, then a tier that doesn’t appeal to your personal aesthetic isn’t such a big deal.

I like the T13, but I think it will look horrible when mixed with current tier pieces. So I’ll probably do a mix-and-match strategy; mog T13 pieces to something approaching t12 aesthetics as I get them, then when I get a shoulder piece I’ll mog everything to match my T13.

The other consideration before transmogging is that all cloth sets had to be able to mix-and-match because of offset drops. But now, I don’t have to worry about wearing a warlock chest with my mage shoulders; I can mog something more appropriate and it will be OK.

This. So much this. Yes, it’s polarizing, but that’s great… it means the art team are taking some risks instead of mulching out a safe, ICC-style snoozefest.

Apparently some of the sets are based off the new lvl 85 spells that their classes got. This is meant to represent “Time warp”. Could’ve been worse… imagine raiding as Tim Curry.

I actually love this. It would look great on Karius … I may have to blow some of the dust off of him.

Seeing what they’ve released so far, I am really looking forward to seeing the paladin set … although it will be hard to top T12. What? Come on, you gotta agree that Van looks fabulous in his dress!

One of the comments that I read on WoW Insider said it looks like a large screaming chicken mouth.

I thought you might appreciate the visual.
