Well that’s old

I have some few hundred screen shots tucked away in a folder that I need to go through and either label or toss.

As incentive to myself to perform this mind-numbing task, I’ll try to take the time to share a few of these with you.

I’ll most likely start with the oldest and work my way to recent shots, but I may jump around a bit just to spice things up.

Back when I started raiding, I was terribly curious about my DPS.

Was it good? Was it improving? How much did it vary from fight to fight?

I wasn’t educated on parsers yet so I would just snag screen shots of recount after various fights, usually whispering myself the name of the fight and any special circumstances that might make the numbers memorable.

So here I have a shot from July of 2009, an Instructor Razuvious kill.

This appears to be during a brief period of experimentation with fire. I wouldn’t do so again until Ulduar, if I recall correctly.

My UI has definitely undergone a change or 20 in the past couple years. Maybe one of these days I’ll do a very image-intensive post with a sampling of how it’s transformed.

The funniest thing to me is that I was probably thrilled at the time to be so close to breaking 5k. I haven’t gotten a chance to play my mage much this expansion, and haven’t checked the new numbers since 4.1, but I imagine I would probably die of shame if I pulled those numbers now.

Kind of sad is the list of names of people in the raid that have disappeared with no warning or have moved on to other games.

Now let’s see if anyone can help me with a UI conundrum. (That’s a fun word to say. Conundrum. Tee hee.)

In the picture, on the left side, by my raid frames, I have a collection of 4 little frames (2 active ones enlarged below).

Near as I can remember, these little puppies came out of the standard raid UI.

I could open the raid frame and drag individual people out to monitor what they were targeting. 90% of the time it was a tank, but it was also useful to keep an eye on wayward DPS when I didn’t want to sacrifice my focus frame slot to playing target-nanny.

Then came Cataclysm and the introduction of the more user-friendly raid frames. Or something like that, I pretty much use Grid for my raid frames and ignore the standard ones.

Any player that I had previously pulled out on a character, I still have this frame for. Any new character I play or any new player that I wish to pull out, I cannot.

I’ve poked at the standard frames, but all I can figure out how to do is tell it to pull out clusters of people, either by group or by selected role. And I’ve never actually gotten it to display properly. (I still use XPerl for a few frames and I think I may have something interfering with the display of standard UI.)

So here’s my question: Is it possible through the standard UI to pull individual people out, regardless of role, see what they are targeting, and even click to target the same thing?

Secondary question: If it is no longer possible in the standard UI, does anyone know of a Grid plug in or other add on that would allow me to do so?
